I received my 8525 and have been playing with it for the last week. I have a few comments about it and some questions hopefully someone can answer for me. As you can see, this is my first post to this forum, so forgive me of my ignorance.
Battery Life - The manual states that this device can last 10 days with one battery charge or can last 5 hours of talk time. My phone battery holds a charge for 1 day with little use. My power settings are very low when on battery. Not sure what's going on.
Keyboard - the slide out keyboard sometimes doesn't work. I have to type with the screen keyboard half the time. I noticed if I changed the screen keyboard to another setting and then back to normal keyboard, the slide out keyboard buttons will work again. Any fix for this?
PTT - I'm not sure I understand what this is, but I would like to use this button to say a persons name into the phone to call someone. I can't program that button, so how can I do this?
I can answer the ptt question, but you will have to wait for someone else to help you with the other questions.
PTT stands for "push to talk" When cingular releases there push to talk services, it will function much like a nextel phone does. For now, it is useless. Search the forums for a guide on how to set the buttons to do whatever you want.
For the battery i went to ebay and got an extended battery. It lasts about twice as long. it is bigger and you get a new battery door but with all my email, tv, music and such, it is well worth the 25 bucks on ebay.
as for the keyboard, i have noticed that if you turn the light sensor off, it helps with that issue. a lot of the 8525's have this issue.
For the PTT button, there is a program called PTTFix that can turn it into a voice dial button. Go to Cingular ROM users: PTT function hacked! - xda-developers to read about it and download it. I've been using it for a couple months and it works great.
