I've had my iPaq 2215 for several years now, and have never had any problems with it untill just recently. What happened was that I began noticing that the unit would on occasion not turn on via the power button - the only way to turn it on was by doing a soft reset. The power button would always turn it off, but would not turn the unit on. About the same time, I noticed that the battery would drain at an unprecedented rate. I could charge the battery in the morning and just let the unit sit unused all day - all the juice would be gone by the end of the day. The battery in question was the original one that came with the unit. As this battery had gone through a large number of charge/discharge cycles, I figured it was time to replace it, so I did. I bought two (non HP) Li-ion batteries which the vendor guaranteed are compatible with the 2215. The problem did not go away. I did a bit of research, and stumbled across a reference to this happening on the HP iPaq 19xx series as a result of firmware/ROM bug; up untill than I figured this sort of thing had to be battery or hardware related. I have in fact updated the firmware/ROM on my unit about the time this started happening.
Has anyone else experienced this sort of problem with their 22xx (or other PPC)? Any ideas on what might be going on and how to fix it?
