I'm new to the world of Pocket PCs, and am looking for advice on some specific models, since I don't know what to look for and what to avoid. Ideally, I would like whatever system I choose to be able to do the following:
1) Play the occasional movie.
2) Play MP3s.
3) Surf the web via WiFi (With as close to full HTML & JS support as possible).
4) Track appointments and remind me so I don't miss them.
5) Deal with a prolific amount of notes and lists.
6) Play (simple) games.
7) Record & file voice memos, up to a few hours long, such as an entire college lecture or meeting.
8) View & edit common file types, such as MS Office files, PDFs, etc.
9) Possibly other things.
Since this is my first time considering a POcket PC in lieu of a laptop that I normally carry, I'm not anxious to waste a large amount of money on an unknown platform. Therefore, for my 1st attempt, I've set a budget of $100 USD or less. I've done some searching, and have located a few models that meet my price range. Please evaluate them and let me know how close they would come to doing what I want them to do, and anything I should be aware of.
1) HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC
2) Toshiba e335 Pocket PC
3) Hewlett Packard Jornada 540 Color Pocket PC
4) HP iPAQ 3870 Pocket PC
5) Casio Cassiopeia E-125 Color Pocket PC
6) ViewSonic V36 Pocket PC
7) Hewlett Packard Jornada 548 Color Pocket PC
8) Casio Cassiopeia E-200 Pocket PC
Anything I haven't addressed that you think I should know is also welcomed.
I have a Jornada 540 series and its very good considering my 548 cost £20/$40 on ebay (548 has 32MB memory built in rather than 16MB). Its good for listening to music but for movies you'll probably need something else. Also internet explorer is preinstalled but I haven't tried yet because I need to find out how to configure my wireless CF card on it.
For games, it can handle simple games like Solitaire etc very easily and if you can deal with long waiting times games like Quake and doom are just about playable.
Microsoft office is built in but excel doesn't like graphs etc but its functional and useful. PDF viewers should be easy to find for it.
Some very good schedule and notes programs on it aswell.
For voice recording, it does have it but I havent tested it yet (No need atm) but to record an hour or two you'd more than likely need a CF card.
If you get one of these it's extreamly worth it for £20/$40 (I got USB cradle etc with that aswell)
