Cingular 8525 synch question--calendar appt times shifting

My Cingular 8525 is driving me out of my mind.

1. When I enter an repetitive appointment in the calendar, the time shifts. I finally figured out that it seems to be related to daylight savings changes. For example, I have entered a weekly meeting every Wednesday from 8AM to 9AM. When I look ahead on the device past daylight savings (say, April 2007), the appointment time is 7AM to 8AM. Is there any way to prevent/disable this?

2. When I travel to another time zone, the times for all my calendar dates shift. For example, I entered a future 9AM to 10AM meeting in New York, while sitting in my office in Chicago. When I landed in New York, the device suddenly recorded the appointment time as 10AM to 11AM. Is there any way to prevent or disable this?

3. When I synch with my PC (Windows XP), appointments sometimes appear as duplicate on the device, even though my Outlook on my PC only shows one appointment. What's up with this?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

JPK

how to fix time zone discrepancies

I think the 8525 is working properly. When you schedule a meeting, the time entered reflects the time zone you're in at the time you are entering the appointment. So if you're in Chicago (CST), and you're scheduling ahead of time for a 10:00 am meeting in New York, you'll have to enter it as 9:00 am. When that date arrives and you're actually in New York (EST) the appointment will appear as 10:00 am (which is actually 9:00 am in Chicago).

I think the same thing is occurring for your recurring appointments that appear beyond Daylight Savings time, although I've never had that particular problem.

One solution is to buy a travel itinerary program (Trip Tracker, City Time)if you travel a lot. These programs will allow you to schedule appointments in various cities which reflect the actual time in those cities. You won't have to make any manual calculations. You just have to remember that whenever you look at future appointments, the times you see will be relative to the time zone you're in at that particular moment. I usually put in an all day event reflecting the event and city I'm attending when planning into the future. That also reminds me that the times I'm seeing are relative to the time zone of that particular city.

Obviously, the same principal holds true for scheduling flights that span time zones.

You can also manually adjust the time on your pda to the time of the visiting location. This will not affect the appointments time in your calendar.
