At our office we're piloting the use of PalmOS or Windows Mobile based units as a network diagnostic tool. The requirements we have are:
* 802.11 a/b/g
* Wired (RJ45) Ethernet - USB adaptor would be OK
* Serial connection for management of network equipment - USB or bluetooth adaptor would be OK
Software requirements would be:
* A good wireless survey tool
* Ability to edit a spreadsheet located on a windows file share
* A serial console program
I'd very much appreciate any advice or suggestions as to a good choice of hardware, adaptor and software.
I've looked into doing this under PalmOS and it seemed that expensive bluetooth serial adaptors and special software to allow editing of files on network shares (to avoid downloading the file and then re-uploading the modified file) were required. I was hoping that there were some better ways of doing it.
