I got a free copy of MS Streets and Trips 2006 that came with pocket streets and USB GPS sensor. My notebook is just too big to bring in the car.
I was looking through craigslist to find some deals on a pocket pc that could run this software and connect with the sensor.
I found a viewsonic v36/37 and an iPaq 3765 in my price range but I have no idea if they are powerful enough to run the software or capable of communicating with the USB GPS sensor. Just because a unit can sync via a usb cable does that mean a USB GPS sensor would work with the unit?
Most WM devices only support USB client function, so there will be a connection issue. However, you can add host function through a card (such as Ratoc's) if the device has a CF expansion slot (I am not aware of any SD options). Or, look for a device that supports USB host functions (the Toshibas did and I think several Loox models do - you usually need an adapter cable to have a standard USB host connection port). You would have to check the GPS documentation for compatible WM software.
