8525 / 8125 Terminal service and citrix

Terminal service client

I am seriously looking at getting a 8525 to allow me access to some machines that need maintenance at times. I have access to these machines via a citrix login OR a ssl-vpn and then a RDP session to my desktop at work. My question that I have is does any one have any screen shots or personal experience with this type of connection?

I went to my local cingular store and as soon as I mentioned the terminal service let alone RDP I got some strange faces.

If the 8125 does this the 8525 should do it quicker right?

Does anyone know of any issues going through an ssl-vpn appliance through the mobile IE?

is there a citrix client for the 8125/8525?

can someone please post some screen shots?

This will be my first mobile PC so excuse me if I am missing something obvious

Thanks in advance
g

Here's some information: Thread about VNC, VPN, etc

I've personally had great success with LogMeIn - Remote Access and Desktop Control Software for your PC, but that requires a small software install on each pc you are connecting to...not sure if you want to go that route. It is completely IE-based and has some great scaling features, and is reasonably quick as long as you have a high speed data connection.

You can create a VPN connection on WM5 with either IPSec/L2TP or PPTP so as long as your firewall always you, you could then tunnel in and from there windows supplies it's own (assuming you are a microsoft house due to the citrix) terminal server client available here:

Pocket PC. Downloads - Terminal Services Client

I don't use citrix only terminal server in administration mode out of the box and it does work via your PPC if not wonderfully. Do you really need to look at these servers whilst out and about?

right now what I have is a pager that tells me what system and a rough idea of what is wrong. Then its a mad rush to a internet connection to citrix to r-admin into the machine to fix what is wrong. I am hoping to cut the mad rush out and just log in on my phone that will become my pager as well. The Citrix client seems to be the way to go. Now I just have to wait for my sprint contract to be up... even if you cut a month early its still a big penalty.

do you have a form factor like the 8525 that you could provide a screen shot of a ts session?

thanks much

I get where you are coming from.

I tried it with the Hx2490 just because the screen is that bit bigger then any other PDA's i have knocking around. I don't have it setup now as I don't do much remote admin. As I said it does work but due to the lack of screen size you are constantly panning around. If you really want to see it I can setup a connection again to take some pics but it won't be in a hurry! A handy tip, if you are the admin guy as opposed to a group of you, lock your server with the main app windows already running if you can so when you TS in you only have to flip between them.

And finally! My personal solution was I took one of our sales guys old ultra portables when his was upgraded and added a bluetooth dongle. It sits in the boot/trunk of my car. If an emergency really needs my attention out it comes, BT to phone and away I go, trust me the screen size makes a big difference, something you might consider?
