I have recently bought my first digital Camera. I got a 16mb card and bought a 1gb card too. I have successfully taken pictures and can view them on my pc both using a usb lead and a card reader/writer.
However when I come to try and put the pictures back on the card to take to a shop to print, it says the media is write protected.
The lock is not down on the card so I know it is not this. I know it is not my camera or card reader as when my friend puts my card in her camera it does not work either and yet when I put her card in my camera it does!!
I contacted the website that I bought the card from and asked if I had bought the wrong type but they seem to think that the only thing that could cause it is the slide lock on the card being on.
They suggested that I formatted the card on the pc but I have heard that you shouldn't do this?
I have tried formatting it on my camera but it still does the same.
I just don't understand why botjh the 16mb and the1gb card are doing exactly the same and yet my mates doesn't - what am I doing wrong!??
Can someone please enlighten me, I don't want to have to buy a new card for that not to work either?!?!
Welcome to Pocket PC Addict! Sorry to hear your are having some challenges with your memory card and camera. One of the things I noticed in your post was that you wanted to "put the photos BACK onto your card" to take them to be printed.
Are you removing the images and editing them from the computer and then attempting to place them back in the same directory you got it from?
Sometimes, once you have formatted the memory card in your camera, it sets up the disc in such a way that you cannot write back to the card unless the format is the same as the images it takes.
Try doing this: While the card is in your card reader, make a new folder, perhaps call it, edited images or something. Then try to put your photos into this folder.
The other obvious things would be to make sure that your card is not filled to capacity already when you try to add other data to it.
If that does not work then I would format the card from your PC, using the smallest one first, in case is causes a problem with compatibility with your camera. Sometimes, when you format from a camera, the camera may use a different file format than windows does, which could create your error. If it works with your small card and your camera still takes images, then you're fine.
An alternative would be to burn your edited images onto a blank CD to take to the store with you to print from. Most of the kiosks can take CD's.
