I just recently bought an Audiovox PPC 4100 AT&T Wireless set. It was unlocked and supposed to be able to use any GSM Network. I bought it with the intention of using it in India as I am a student there studying abroad. I put in my sim card from India and it worked in the states and had me roaming on the singular network. However when I got to India it does not seem to find the network although it lets me use the sim card. It just sits there and keeps searching. I thought it the phone was the SP230 model which is supposed to be able to be used abroad in asia, and has gsm900. Is there anyway i can verify this, and is there anything I can do to overcome this problem, or is there a way that i can tell it to switch gsm frequencies. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi ttiger211996, welcome to the forum! To help answer some of your questions. You may want to open up the back of the phone and look for "SP230" any where. If it has that then I don't see why it wouldn't work in India. As for changing the frequencies the phone receives, I don't think that’s possible. But It is possible to switch the frequencies that the phone is supposed to accept, if those frequencies are available in a specific area. Some information I found that may help you:
According to this site, there are no operating 1900 or 850 frequencies, in which case, if your phone is not a SP230 version you can only run on 1800. If the city you are staying in does not have that frequency and your not using a SP230 version. I don’t think you would be able to use that phone, hope that helps.
