8125q123: Your problem sounds like it could be a number of things...
a) a loose connection (either at the PPC or your PC's end);
b) a faulty connector (broken wires inside) - test with another cable!!!
these two are the most probable culprits... now for other, crazier ideas:
c) a timer that disconnects your connections to the PPC (maybe a powersaver mode that interrupts the USB?)
d) a program in your PC that throws an "interrupt" into the USB connection (though it's not affecting my USB, my windows saver often interrupts my work when I'm downloading from the Internet, since I need a password to reactivate my desktop)
e) a bug in your ActiveSync software... (this is really farfetched, though)
personally, i use my computer at work to install programs to my phone. when you plug the USB cable into the computer, it creates a virtual ethernet connection that is prone to the windows firewall. at work, it would create the connection and then activesync would just spend all day "Connecting" to the device. as it turned out, group policy had blocked the activesync ports and i had to turn off the firewall to connect my phone. you may want to make sure that the windows firewall is allowing the activesync ports. it sounds like you're doing a typical install where the first half installs to your computer and then the second half installs to the 8125 through activesync.

Yup, I second tekiran's post on blaming Windows Firewall. See if you can connect after the firewall is turned off.
I fourth that...
You may want to try this out. Un-install active sync and re-boot the pc. Then install active sync 4.2 again, now before you create a new partnership with your pocket pc, turn off firewall first and let the process run.
This works for me...

How embarrassing... I didn't think of the firewall...
But you guys are right... firewalls can automatically block any kind of network, including a USB based one...
wait a minute.. i worked when i installed a couple of softwares but now it's back to the same message "the mobile device is no longer connected" again.. i don't understand.

Are you plugged into a hub or anything? This is pretty weird...
