Bluetooth, EDR, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA Primer

I've seen a lot of hype on some of the new phones coming out (or just released) with marginal specifications released.

Here is a primer on the above data rates:

Bluetooth ver 1,0 - 1.2 (V 2.0 w/o EDR) 1.0 Mbps
ver 2.0 w/ EDR 3.0 Mbps

GPRS 10 70 Kbps
Edge 384 Kbps
UMTS 384 Kbps - 2.0 Mbps
HSDPA ver 4 1.8 Mbps
ver 6 3.6 Mbps (Cingular network speed)

As you can see, any phone that has HSDPA and BT w/o EDR has a max limit of 1.0 Mbps on a BT data connection and 3.0 Mbps w/ EDR.
This is not a limiting factor on a USB connection.

Ckeck to see what version of HSDPA that the phone conforms to as I have seen missing information on this matter.

Great information on speeds (although I believe you mean Kbps and not just bps or else that would be REALLY slow!) I'm sure this will help many just getting on board.

Thanks for your input Ira!

Tim,
You are correct as I left off the K on the GPRS and EDGE rates.
