I'm new to this site, but certainly not computers and PDA's in general.
Anyway, Long story short, I HAD an Axim X50 520. "Sold" it on Ebay and fell victim to a PayPal scam. At the time I had sold, I was fed up with Windows Mobile and heading back to Palm. I sold EVERYTHING with it, wireless keyboard etc.
Well, live and learn. If I ever sell a big ticket item again I will opt for the slightly higher cost of paypal seller protection.
Still love my Palm devices (Sony UX-50 and various older palm devices) but I decided, after reading how things have changed with latest ROMs and such, to jump back in. I have an Axim X51v on it's way. Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things!
Welcome to Pocket PC Addict Matt! Estacada, Oregon eh? Glad to see another northwesterner around! Let us know of anything you can share with your Axim X51v and glad to have you back in the Pocket PC community!
I'd been a victim of a Pocket PC scam as well... right when the HP iPAQ 3650 first surfaced. Dang those scammers!
Well, hardware level A03 and A12 ROM came installed. So far, all is working great! Took me NO time at all to get my GPS stuff working via bluetooth. This was NOT true on my old Axim with the Windows Mobile 5 Upgrade!
Well, not a tip, but a question. When I had my old Axim, with the Windows Mobile 5 upgrade installed, memory was split into seperate sections (whose names I can no longer remember) and you could choose which section to install a program too. Some required (Live Microsoft Voice Command) to be installed in the "primary" ram. Others ran happily from the "secondary" ram.
On this X51 it seems as though they have taken that out of my hands and program memory vs. data memory is all handled automatically.
So, the question is, am I correct in my assumptions on memory management on the X51v?
By they way, sorry for the rambling message, many things happening here while I'm trying to compose this!
No problem about the rambling, I ramble even if there isn't many things happening! But yeah... I'm guessing you are talking about the "Main Memory" and "Storage." I don't have an X51v but my guess is that because the X50v was originally running Windows Mobile 2003SE it needed that ROM "Storage" to store information in case the battery runs out. But because Windows Mobile 5.0 native devices include the persistant memory feature (allows the data to be intact even if the battery runs out), the "Storage" space is no longer needed since everything is safe (not just the "Storage" section). Does that make sense or am I just rambling as well? Let me know if I answered you question. If not, it's back to the drawing board...
