Hi people, I've been looking around for an answer to this and found this forum, which seems to be filled with a lot of helpful people, so thought I'd give this a go.
Anyway, on to my question.
Both my wife and I have the new T-Mobile MDA with a 1gb memory stick, all seems to work okay for the most part, however it seems with the screen turns off and the device enters some kind of standby mode, the memory card is no longer being seen, this causes problems with a few programs, such as email attachments downloading to a storage card it can't see, or entering standby while saving a large spreadsheet. I've found that the email client will even create a folder called "storage card" then the real storage card appears as "storage card2", causing me to need to delete the new folder and re-insert the card.
Anyway, is there any registry edits for what I can only assume is some kind of power save feature related to the memory card? Thanks in advance for any help
My guess is that it is an issue with the T-Mobile MDA that can be fixed with a ROM upgrade. I don't think there is one for the US version of the MDA but you can only confirm my assumption if someone else with an MDA has the same issue...
My wife has the same model device and the same kingston memory card. We both have the same issue. I'm curious to see if it's related to the card and if anyone else here has experienced the same problems
Madelk:
Hi, and welcome to our forum!
I have an MDA and have noticed that my storage card occasionally "disappears"... I have a mini SD card.
Since my previous PPC had a problem with the SD card popping out sometimes when I bumped it the wrong way, I tried (and it worked) just pressing the card to extract it and then put it in again.
The MDA does not let the card "pop out", and keeps it in the slot, so I guess that the card gets partially out of it's connector, and that's why it disappears...
As for the machine locking up when this happens, I also noticed that if I put the MDA in my pocket, it often ends up "locked"... apparently my pocket presses the unit's buttons simultaneously...
Let me know if this quick fix helps!.................. Manny
same problem here with my tmo mda, i notice mine vanishing when the mda has been joggled on my hip, this happens even when its plugged into a/c power in the car and it doesnt hibernate, i thought it was just bad hardware. cuz i reseat it a couple times and the card shows up again, this can be irritating when it vanishes while taking pictures and you suddenly dont have enough room for the half meg files the camera generates.
Well, aimshaman, I just updated the ROM for the MDA, and I hope that this improves...
But, honestly, this card is not as sensitive as my old PDA's SD card, which even popped out when I put it in the clip holder! :-?
Good luck! and don't forget that we have updated ROM (see Tim's posting on Aug. 1st)
ive had the problem yesterday and today and i upgraded the ROM on friday. i have a tmo mda thats only about a month old. so it looks like it wasnt a ROM fix. its easy to notice it on mine since i use spb diary installed to the storage card.
AimShaman, after the ROM fix what I've noticed is disappearing and corrupt files... maybe with my uninstalling and reinstalling software the card has gotten some garbage in it, but it actually deleted a whole directory in one case... :-/
Tim, do you have any ideas? Maybe I should open a new thread to discuss Memory Cards...
