Hello, everybody. I have a bit of a problem. My e740 keeps doing a reset to factory specs for no apparent reason. At least not apparent to me. Has anybody else had this problem? Or any ideas why this is happening? Toshiba doesn't support their PDAs anymore unless you pay money for the help. Any help would be appreciated.
The battery is actually doing very well. I suspected that at first. It happens at the most odd times. It might be possible that the battery is not seating properly, but it will reset when the unit is on and I am trying to use it. It's like I've hit a reset button or something.
Maybe I didn't adequately describe what it is doing. Every so often, quite at random, the unit will lose all data saved in its memory and return to factory original state. I have to go back in and enter the owner information and download any files to it. After its little episode, there is nothing on the unit except what Toshiba put on it originally and any changes I have made to it (time zone, etc.) are gone. To me, that is a hard reset. But I have also tried the hard reset button. I noticed today that there is a small
It seems it might be your cradle at fault not your PDA. If in warrrenty contact them, if not try one of the cheap replacement USB sync cables. Let us know how you get on.

Frustrating isn't it? I've experience the same problem and this is what I have found:
1. The first thing I did was purchase Sprite Backup. I back up almost every day. Atleast if the system does reset, my programs and settings are returned to what they were at my last back up.
2. It seemed that the reset happened most often when I was removing it from the cradle or removing it from the case. The case, by the way, was a clamp that squeezed the sides of the PDA, much of the same way that I would squeeze the sides when removing it from the cradle. I think what was happening is when the PDA was squeezed the battery was losing connection to the contacts causing the reset.
3. When I stopped using the case, it didn't happen as often. However, it was still occurring when I removed it from the cradle, so, I started to remove it from the cradle by pulling it from the top of the PDA instead of the sides. This reduced the resets even more.
4. I started using memory cards for almost everything except for those things that have to be stored in the main memory.
5. It still occasionally resets, but not nearly like it use to. It seems to happen if the unit is jarred or squeezed in some way.
I have to say that I am looking for a new PDA, but can't make a decision on what to get. Until then, I can live with this and up until this started happening, I've been very happy with the E740.
Best of luck with this. Let me know how you make out.
One more thing, check your battery switches, the one on the left of the device should be all the way up, if not, it could cause the device to reset. The same goes for the little white switch at the bottom, that should be all the way to the left, if not, your device will definitely reset.
