I have a T-Monile MDA and I am trying to research the best hardware and software for GPS. I hav located a lot of discussion for outside the US but not for th eUS. Cam anyone give me some ideas and/or experiences?
Welcome to Pocket PC Addict lenmarinaccio! I'd recommending checking out Pharos GPS, as they make Bluetooth GPS adapters for your T-Mobile MDA. Ostia software should be included. I'm sure there are others out there that can tell you what other software they use. Pharos is a great start! Hope this helps!
Hi, lenmarinaccio !!!
I just tried out the BTGPS III GPS receiver with WisePilot software that Tigerdirect.com has for $70 bucks... I decided I couldn't go wrong, with the unit, since I can also connect to my laptop through Bluetooth...
I had read that this receiver is "old technology", and this might be true, but I'm not too young, so "old" doesn't scare me...
The WisePilot software is a european based system that requires your phone be connected to the Internet so it can download maps and instructions as you move around. It is very good at recalculating the route when you don't follow instructions (or you like going a different way), and the automated voice (a british lady) is OK.
I'm in NYC and had no trouble getting location and instructions, though I did find that some electrical (radio?) disturbances and incoming phone calls would interrupt the system and make it say I moved at over 100 mph... (at those times, I also lost the verbal reminders as to which way to go - can you imagine... "honey, I'll call you later cause I have to listen to the GPS" !!!!)
I tested the system over routes I know well and also going to a friends house for the 1st time, and my wife and I feel it was a good investment.
When the free trial for the software is up in September, I'll see if we continue with WisePilot or move to a file based GPS mapping service.
