I'm a Verizon customer and I'm looking to upgrade to a pocketpc phone. A few of my friends have the PPC 6700 w/ Sprint and they love it, but a few reviews I've read said the Xv6700 from Verizon was a little different. I was wondering if anyone out there has the XV6700 and what they think of it. Any info would be great. Thanks.
I don't know how useful this is, since I'm not a Verizon customer (I'm with Telus in Canada). I just recently upgraded from a blackberry too the UTStarcom, and actually sold my HX4700 as a result. It's a great pocket pc, I do miss the VGA screen, but have to give in on somethings. I haven't had a prob with mine yet, apps all work, music, vids, etc, all what you would expect from a WM5 ppc. My only complaint is that it is a little small, so you may find the keys kind of tight, expecially when playing games.
As for the phone component, its really nice quality, MUCH better reception than the blackberry. Speakerphone, bluetooth headset, photo caller ID.. lots of features, too many too get into with a quick post
One notable thing tho, that I have noticed, and maybe its' me, but I seem to have some occassional difficulty answering calls. THe phone will ring, I'll hit Answer, but it gets cut off.. luckily for me, I'm not much of a phone person, e-mail is preferable .
Also, e-mail/typing is quite nice with the slide out kb, still getting up too speed from switching from BB.
Dunno if thats any help I love mine, finally managed to combine 2 devices (more if you had a large mem card for media). If theres anything specific I can help with, feel free to ask
Though I'm a 'Newbie' to this Forum, which I allready think is Great, and fairly new to the Windows Mobile Family, I think the XV6700 is the Best. And that's not just because I'm w/ VZW, but have been w/ them and a member of howardforums.com for a LONG time; long enough to have somewhat of an understanding of their Handset capability Restrictions ( Though I don't agree w/ all of them ) as well as their noticable difference in pricing. First, as far as pricing, we've all heard the term 'You get what you Pay for' and Yes VZW is more expensive in many areas, but the Reception and Coverage is outstanding. In the 6 or so years that I & the Dept. I work for, I personally have not lost / dropped one call. And that is State wide as well as a number of Various Altitudes as I fly w/ DPS Ranger, belonging to a State Police Dept. As far as the Original Question, sorry for getting off track. My memory is about as long as my.... ah, Antenna. I also have the XV6700 and I love it ! No problems (yet) the Data Support Team is Top Notch, and many other Qulity Pluses. Yes, Sprint gets most of the press due to a restriction VZW put on the device, one which me personally will never use and the cost of the required Data Plan. Sprint= $15.00 a month Unlimited use vs VZW=$45.00 a month. But going w/ the VZW's Unlimited Plan, which I was going to go w/ anyways due to the useage I planned on exposing it to and I use my LG vx8100 for Talk, texting, picture / video messaging purposes, I got an emmediate $100.00 discount off the Device for going w/ the Unlim. Plan. While Sprint, from what I've read, researched and even told by Friends who are w/ Sprint, they too have their share of 'Hidden' costs thru different available features and 'Untold' extra charges for Data useage. Now all of this is coming from one Man's Opinion (Mine) and you, obviously need to make up your own mind. And I also have Nothing against Sprint nor their Customers. Just my 37.5 Cents!
I have the xv6700 and love it. It can do almost once you get past all of the verizon formatting and other junk they put on it. I recommend getting a regediter and going to the following link for endless amounts of information on this pocket pc. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. vB Easy Archive - My list of compiled hacks & tips for the XV6700 Updated 8/22/06
I have a PPC6700 from Sprint myself, and I love it. Even though I've been haveing issue sending email (i beleive some setting os off somewhere ) I ahve very little issues with mine. I did get the firmware upagrade to fix bugs, but be warned, this will violate your warrenty with your carrier. But it does fix so many things, nothing big to fix but the little things work better. Software features may be different between the providers.
I use mine for just about everything, I even have the MS Office 2007 beta and it works flawless with it.
You may want to but and extended battery, if you have all three antennas on ( Cell/Data, Bluetooth, and WiFi ) this will drain the battery much faster, about 4-6 hours. I recieved to chargers, car and AC, along with the abilty to charger from USB so power really isn't an issue.
It is a Jack-of-all-Trades and master of none:
1.3 megapixel is decent along with video w/ sound
Windows Media Player Mobile plays streams and MP3 and some MPEG so I addeda different player for those.
Office Mobile works very well and snc up very well with it's PC counterpart
I have the data package so I surf at very good speeds with Sprint, Pocket IE has no major issue but as funtionall as PC i.e some dropdown menus don't appear. Try Opera mobile I find it works VERY well. Remeber Pocker IE is stripped down so it will not have many plugs-in you may be usefull.
I read MANY revies bashing this phone and honestly I can't find why. THis is a Pocket PC w phone capabilties, not a phone with some Pocket PC abilities. Knowing this, I believe you will love it
I did forget 1 thing : it only has 64megs of storage and most is already in use, I HIGHLY recommend the you get a storage card( minSD ) . I bought a 2Gb fro around $50 and save everything there.
