New to PPCs

Hi everyone.
My palm just crapped out on me, so instead of looking at buying another, I realized that it would be smarter to just buy a ppc, which are seemingly superior in every way.

The problem, however, is that I have no clue on what PPC I should get to fit my needs. I'm looking for something to run the DOS emulator at the best speed possible, and is able to run some various RTS and RPG games (AoE, Warlords II + III, and EDGE) Maybe something with a good internal space for MP3s.

Looking to spend around 450ish. Anyone able to help?

Thanks.

Hey Downsistem!

Welcome to the forums! I'm glad you have made the choice to go to the other side. There are many Pocket PCs that will fit your needs as I'm sure you'll hear from other Addicts, but if I were you I'd probably get either the HP iPAQ hx4705 as it is one of the best performers out there (624 MHz). You can find one for around $450 shipped on eBay like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-iPAQ-POCKET-P...QQcmdZViewItem

Others on the board might recommend a Dell Axim X50 or X51, the only difference is that the X50 runs WM2003SE and the X51 runs Windows Mobile 5.0 (a newer version). Some software don't play nice with WM 5.0 so if you are looking for compatability, the X50 might be the way to go. If you are wondering the hx4705 also runs WM2003 and there are rumors that HP will release a WM 5.0 upgrade for the hx4705 in the near future but who knows when that will be. This unfortunately will not be the case for the X50 since they X51 is already running the software. The X51 runs for about $374 retail and details can be found here:

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...=19&l=en&s=dhs

I hope this helps, let me know if you are confused in anyway!

Woah. That Ipaq is perfect. I always see on PPC game sites that there are usually requirements for each game. Is this system strong enough to run everything?

I've noticed that PPCs have a flash player, as well as a running dos emulator. This is stuff that I and every other palm owner dreamed about. Makes you wonder why palm is even around.

downsistem:

That's the spirit . The iPAQ is in fact perfect, if it would, I'm sure the iPAQ hx4705 could run a marathon. It's definetly the standard when it comes to performance.

Here is some more information on DOS emulation:

Hope this helps!

Because money's an issue for me. . . I'm all about the Dell Axim x51v for $267 shipped . . . new at dell Rather than the $648 new at Amazon.com. . .

Thanks slickdeals!

What's wrong with the headphone jack? Can you describe the problem you are having?

jeffersonkim: I would have showed him this deal if it was available when this thread was started. Good looking out!
