Sena Axim X50/51v Case Review

What better to add to my brand new Axim X51V Pocket PC but a new case. A new case protects the exterior of the device from scratches and unintentional nicks that can occur with day to day usage. There are quite a few cases on the market but this time Sena cases had one I really wanted to try. Their X50/X51V case with the blue and black finish looked to be the right one for me.

The case came packed nicely in a velour(?) carrying bag - and a Sena gift style box - perfect for wrapping as a gift. I probably won't be using the carrying bag for storage, but it's nice for wiping dust off the screen.
The leather they used for the case is firm and a little bit flexible. In comparison to a Vaja case, it's not quite as soft, nor is the leather odor as apparent. I can appreciate the firm leather because it feels like it will hold up better and not contort.

This is a "sync in the case" case. Meaning you don't have to remove it from the case in order to dock it in the cradle and sync away. I have no complaints in this area. I was able to easily dock it while it was in the case.
Sena has uncovered all of the buttons and switches on the front and side of the device so you don't have to worry about how you will access your controls. There is a notch cut out of the "hinge" to make room for the headphone minijack. They even cut out a tiny hole in the back of the case for access to the soft reset button.

Speaking of the notch cut out of the hinge, it seemed different from all the other cases I've tried. Most use a simple hole cut with some stitching to prevent fraying. Perhaps Sena has found less fraying by cutting out the notch?
The notch seems to unbalance things a bit visually but it works for having headphones plugged in with the case closed. Yet, there is less pressure on the miniplug if you lift the lid a tad to see what's on the screen.
Also you can see there are two SD card pouches you can use to store your extras. And a business card holder. I popped in two SD cards just to see and found they wedged themselves in a way that requires you to push the case closed - as opposed to being able to flip it closed with one hand. Not a huge issue obviously. The magnets used to hold the screen cover closed are powerful and well placed. So the case does close with two SD cards in there.
One aspect some will find appealing is they have a reasonable price for their cases. Sometimes you can even find one in their close-out area for even more money savings.
Pros
* Good solid protection for your pocket pal
* Case looks great
* Good price point
* Holds two extra SD cards
Cons
* (I am reaching here) The miniplug notch distorts the case a little
Overal, it's a no brainer. If you want a quality, good looking case for a reasonable price I have no qualms about recommeding Sena. It's a strong/firm leather that seems to hold it's shape. It's got extra space for storage cards and the magnets hold the cover firmly in place for your protection.
