I am moving my cell service to Verizon in Feb. I want a Bluetooth able Pocket PC to dial my Bluetooth able phone via Bluetooth hands free kit. I would like to use Microsoft Voice Command if possible.
I need a recommendation for a Pocket PC device and phone. 2 separate devices. I already have a Pocket PC phone with T-Mobile but the service is not all that good.
Do all current Bluetooth able phones from Verizon work with Bluetooth able Pocket PCs?
The Pocket PC can be used. I would like the phone to be new.
Please advise.
Thanks.
If I understand your post correctly, you are looking at using 3 separate devices at one time:
1 ) Bluetooth Headset / Hands Free Kit
2 ) PPC
3 ) Bluetooth enabled cell phone
and then you want to be able to speak via the headset to your PPC, and have it dial your cell phone for you.
If this is the case, then I don't believe that will work. In order for that to work, you would have to have the headset paired with 2 devices at the same time (the phone and the PPC) and I don't know of any headset/hands free device that will allow pairing with more than one device at a time.
The upside for you is that some bluetooth enabled phones will have a voice dialing feature, so you can speak the name of the contact in your phone, "call Mom on cell." It may not be the ideal solution, but it is better than nothing. Unfortunately, it will require that you re-enter your contact into the phone, unless you get sync software like SnapSync or DataPilot to sync your phone book.
Another alternative would be a smartphone, rather than a full fledged PDA phone. A smartphone doesn't have all the features of a PDA, but can sync with ActiveSync, as well as install software the same way as you would a PPC.
You might want to check out the new Samsung i700, it is a PDA phone carried by Verizon and it has gotten some pretty good reviews, you might find better service with that carrier than with T-Mo.
Don't quote me on this, but as most of you know Verizon has crippled the bluetooth stack on their phones (i.e. Motorola v710). I'm not sure if the lawsuits have fixed this issue, but OBEX file transfers as well as just plain old "dialing from your Pocket PC contacts via bluetooth" will not work. I've tried it myself with a v710 and an iPAQ hx4705. Disappointing at best. I'd go with JDTagish's recommendation and get a full fledged Pocket PC Phone Edition. You could get the Samsung SCH-i730 or even wait for the Treo 700w to come out for Verizon. Both have the ability to pair up with a bluetooth headset or a handsfree kit.
Hope this helps!
No worries, that's why you ask questions!
Is there a reason you do not want a different Pocket PC phone, or Smartphone?
For me, I don't like the idea of holding a full size pocket pc up to my head to make a phone call. I'd feel like I was talking into a tape recorder or something silly like that. I know that most people solve that issue by using a headset, but I don't like to wear one all the time, like at home or something, so for me, a full size phone PPC is out.
I am currently considering the Samsung i600 smartphone, which has a clamshell design (flip phone) the form factor I prefer. I can put Audible, TCPMP and Tiny e-book reader on there for the times I'd rather not have to carry both devices around, and I can sync with Outlook, so I don't have to re-enter them. Overall, the best of both worlds for me. The only thing it doesn't have is BT, but that's not a deal-breaker for me.
Anyway, if you can let us know what you prefer in a device and what you are open to, we can come up with some suggestions for you.
I want a phone can BT to a IPAQ H5555 or H5550. Dial contacts via bluetooth and then talk on a BT headset. I know I can't use voice command through the headset.
Is this possible

It's really only possible if you have a phone that isn't Verizon or Sprint since they disable most of the Bluetooth features on their phones. Sorry to break the news. Are you interested in any other carriers?
-Tim
Actually, the BT feature that gets disabled mostly, is DUN or tethering abilty. The use of a headset is rarely, if ever disabled by a cell carrier.
Sorry let me reclairify, I meant that the ability to choose a contact from your contacts on your Pocket PC then having it sent to your Verizon or Sprint phone is usually disabled. Headsets and handsfree sets should work no problem.
Sorry for the confusion!

hbguy, I hope we didn't confuse you there...
The simple asnwer to your question goes back to the pairing again. This time the issue would be pairing your phone to 2 devices at the same time. The concept of pairing means that you can only "pair" with one other device at the same time. It's not like USB where you have an unlimited number of connections. So, no you would not be able to have your iPaq connected to your phone and your phone to both the headset and the iPaq.
Tim is right tho...several of the major carriers DO disable the ability to connect to a laptop or PPC via bluetooth from a cell phone. This is to prevent people from using the phone as a modem. Unfortunately, it also means that even if you don't want to use the phone as a modem, you still can't pair with a laptop or a PDA for syncing or contact info.
