ScottEVest may have gotten some flack over having magnetic closures on their jackets. Even though the have not had any complaints, it might be possible those magnets might cause a problem with a pacemaker. Today they made a statement about it: "It has been brought to our attention that magnets can interfere with pacemakers and similar medical devices. We have been using magnets in our clothing since 2002 and have not had one complaint or problem with pacemakers, or other devices. The magnets help keep pockets and the wind flap closed. The magnetic closures are one of the most popular features on our products.
We understand that when a person has a pacemaker (or similar device) implanted, their doctor explains how to care for it, and tells people to keep magnets away from their chest area. Some people believe that cell phones may interfere with certain pacemakers as well.
The hangtags on the products indicate that magnets are included, and when you open a pocket or wind flap with a magnetic closure, it should be obvious that a magnet is keeping it closed. Only a very small portion of the population has pacemakers. We strongly encourage anyone with a pacemaker not to wear our products. "
