Welcome to the forums jVirus!
There should perhaps be some explanation for WHY people hard reset.
For myself, I have created an "image" of my setup, prior to synchronizing my device. The image contains a complete backup of my "essential" programs, that have had their registration codes entered and programs skinned to my liking.
Following that, I will backup my device on a regular basis (usually 2 to 3 times per week) so that there is no data loss in the event of a crash.
I hard reset more than 10 times per year. Usually after trying out a program that doesn't like my device or conflicts with some software. (I make it a rule to back up my device BEFORE I install ANY software, even if it is an upgrade to a program I already have installed!) I like to try out all kinds of software, and see how I like it before I buy, so I can get a bunch of incomplete "removes" which can really slow down the device, so if I have tried something I don't like, I usually hard reset and then restore from the backup I did just before I installed the program.
I use Sprite Backup Premium to accomplish this.
In the event of a system failure or other quirky thing, I have my clean image I can restore from, and then create a new partnership with Activesync to recreate the majority of my data.
I periodically create a new image as the programs I commonly use get upgraded. I did a new one just a few days ago because so many programs had been upgraded to make them compatible with WM2005.
I also keep a small SD card with the CAB files to most of my important programs in my travel kit, just in case.
hello JDTagish
interesting info on backups. i will be using spb 1.5 for the backups. is it okay? but is it as simple as u mentioned? what about the backups of softwares installed. surely you have to re-install the softwares. even if they are loaded onto the storage card, they have counterfiles in the main memory as well which will get deleted in case of hard reset.
