You read the title right, it wasn't a Treo or a Symbian device on the top of the list, but a Windows Mobile device. The Samsung SCH-i730 was chosen as CNET's top pick because the device is "small, light, and powerful." Also they tout the i730's full wireless capabilities (Bluetooth, WiFi, 1xRTT and EV-DO) although they wish that the bluetooth portion was not crippled on the device. We love the phone too but we only wish that it came in different wireless flavors, mainly GSM.
It does look nice, and I have heard some nice things about it, but for myself, I am not ready to go with a converged device. The only one that has even tempted me is the HTC Universal, but no one knows when that might be available in the US.
I guess I'm a little old fashioned, I like the flip phone form factor, and am considering a smart phone for my next device purchase, and the one I am considering is also a samsung, the i600. (yet another "i" device...can we PLEASE move to another letter!) It retains the flip phone style, but adds some features. It would not replace my faithful Toshiba e800 however, but would reduce the need to have both "on me" at all times.
I'm still waiting to see what the new crop of devices will bring. For me, dual card slots, a scroll wheel and USB Host cabibilities are what keeps me with my Toshiba, and I don't see that any converged devices will do that form me.
