Here's the deal: Last year I picked up the HX4705 as a pricey Christmas gift to myself. I got this instead of a laptop.
Coming up on a year, and I now use my HX4705 mainly as an MP3/video player via a 1GB sd card. That's about it.
Early on, I went nuts, bought games, apps, tried alot of freebies, used it for some docs on the way home, went to a public WIFI access point, etc.
It did not help that my company got me a Treo 650, which required the unlimited data package since it hooks into our Lotus Notes, so I have web access anytime anywhere via GPRS.
I am not excited by the idea of upgrading to WM5. So basically I have grown bored with my HX4705 and will probably sell it on ebay.
I guess I am posting to ask:
1) What are you using your PPC for besides the above?
I bought a HX4700 around the same time. and I too went though the initial "crazy" period when I wanted it too do everything under the sun, replace y laptop etc... but lets face it, they still just arent' That poweful to serve as a replacement. A partial substitute perhaps, buts that it.
I use my fairly heavily, mostly for mp3/video via my 6gig microdrive, but also for books, taking notes in meetings, schedule events etc....and occasionaly games and browsing. When you're flopped on the couch, its pretty cool to be able to take over your desktop or just browse I think... buts thats me...
I also have a blackberry 7250, but its a poor replacement for the ppc, except that it has the net everywhere.
Ideally, I'd be able to bluetooth modem with the blackberry to the pocketpc, but thats appearently not possible, thank you blackberry

Have to say I had the same crazy phase as all true boys have with new toys. I was downloading anything that blinked - how I got away with never having to do a hard reset I don't know.
The bit that really stuck has been watching films, I have copied around 30-40 films and TV series on my PC and if I have a trip I just transfer one (or three) to a large CF card. The one problem is that when I upgrade to a new machine (near future once some innovation hits the makers) I'll have to port them again. I've also installed a TV card in my main PC and am currently looking for a decent Application to port them to PPC (any advice accepted).
I still continue to listen to music (as everyone else does) and have recently been converted to podcasting (with the help of Doppler) and RSS feeds. And play the odd game.
The other aspect that has given my PPC some added life is I've started to write applications in VS.Net, nothing serious just messing around the in vague direction of making an app that can be used to ID students that have forgotten their cards.
At the moment i seem to spending a lot of my spare time, changing themes and skins.
I use wisbar advanced 2 and wisbar advanced desktop which allows me to change my entire desktop and how the today screen and other screens can be displayed.
Have a look here for various screen shots of what people have done: http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/for...?p=30790#30790
To be honest this has totaly changed how i now use my device, and i am constantly changiing how it looks due to the various skins etc on this site.

Its well worth having a go even as a trial.

I use mine daily, as a matter of fact, I recently sent my laptop into the field with a co-worker (I work in a construction office) because I just didn't use it anymore. It is so much faster to fire up the PDA to check mail and review files, (I use a USB SD card to transfer and hold them) and I have a Bluetooth keyboard for notes. I also use iNav for GPS Navigation (entire US on a 4 GB CF card), read e-books, watch movies, play games and organize my life. I have a credit card size camera I use for pictures in the field (or personal) which takes an SD card which allows me to veiw pictures immediately or in a meeting on the beautiful screen. I have albums of pictures on my memory card which I have running as a screen saver constantly when it is cradled using DocWare Pro. (No more pictures hiding in photo albums in a closet for me) I am rarely seen without my PDA on my hip or in my hand. It has literally made my life easier, especially when I have to be out of the office, which is often.
I think the most fun you have with a device is when you first get it. Trying out everything, pushing all the buttons, loading all the software, and tweaking everything to be just so.
Then, what do you do? Just about the time I get things set up just the way I want them, some software is updated or a new product comes out, and I have to install it. Sometimes it doesn't work out, like Pocket Plus 3, which I have, but can't use, but it's mostly ok.
Of course, I ALWAYS backup before I install ANY new program!
But, in that time when I am not installing programs, I find that the 3 things I use most are: Pocket Money (Handmark) which keeps my checkbook register, UBook - I have several hundred books loaded onto my SD card, and TCPMP - to listen to audiobooks and watch movies.
I bought WisBar Advance Desktop, but there were a few installer & code issues that I am waiting to be resolved, and hopefully a manual to come soon, before I really get into using it.
