I have an ipaq BT keyboard that I use with my 4155. The keyboard is great, except that it rips through a brand new set of AAA batteries in 2 weeks even when NOT IN USE. I think that the power button is getting pressed while in my briefcase and it is running down the batteries.
As a work around, I have started to turn one of the batteries around in the battery compartment when the device is not in use to prevent it from turning on.
Will this do damage to either the batteries or to the keyboard?
Thanks
Scott
Scott,
First, it seems strange to me that your keyboard is going through batteries so quickly. You may want to contact the company to make sure yours is not defective. I have the Stowaway keyboard that can go months without dying under light/sometimes moderate use. Are you using Alkaline batteries? You really should be with this keyboard.
I definately WOULD NOT turn one of the batteries around like what you describe. If you are shorting the battery, it can overheat, leak and ruin your keyboard.
Check out Home depot for batteries, I was there yesterday you can just about buy a case for $20 that would last you a year even if they did die every two weeks.
I will take the batteries out immediately. I think that the device is continuously powering itself on while in my case and that is why it rips through batteries because if I put the batteries in only when I am using the keyboard, they last a very long time.
What do you think about just putting a piece of paper between the contacts of battery one and battery 2?
Thanks for the response.
In that case, I'd look to see if you can find a firmware update for the keyboard. I did some checking, and this is complained about in a lot of forums. So until they update the firmware, removing the batteries is your best bet.
