On the back upper right corner of the h5555, just under the screw, there's a port covered by a metallic silver piece of tape. The port almost looks like an MC connector could attach but it's a little too small.
An HP tech service person told me it had been intended to be used for an external antenna but they revised the design to use the internal unit. He said they just left it there as a dummy and it has no use.
I find that difficult to believe. Why wouldn't they have revised the case forms? After all, they did add the internal antenna.
So, anyone know what this is for and if it can be used? Or, is it truly a dummy antenna? I'd sure like to be able to attach an external antenna to boost my reception.
TIA.
And Here it is...
I'm not sure. what that is...anyone else?
I will say this though, if they produced or ordered 1/2 a million cases of this make and THEN decided not to go with an external antenna, That is a small enough area they could possibly say "Let's run with them" instead of paying for more cases.
Yes, if that were the case. But, wouldn't you think that they'd have known the antenna was to be placed on the top of the unit by the time they produced the cases?
That defenietly looks like an external antenna port, does the 5555 come with WiFi? The best way to find out if it's still hooked up would be buy an antenna and plug it in and see if it helps signal strength. ebay link
Those should all have the right connectors.
One sec, I'm uploading pictures of my laptop's mini pci wifi card. I think it's called an n something port. I'll figure that out after I show you the pics.
Pocky -- Thanks for going to all the trouble.
They look just like the MC Card adapter on my Buffalo WiFi card. Thinking that's what yours are too.
The port on my h5555 is smaller and it tapers on the inside.
