brighthand has a story about Sandisk's new high-capacity SD card plan. They have a 2.0 gig card on the way, but perhaps the real news is this card will start retailing for $200 It seems like just a few short months ago the 1gig cards were astronomical in price. Yet today, with rebates, etc. a bargain hunter can find one in the range of $39 or so. "But that isn't the end of the story. SanDisk has now announced an even less expensive 2 GB SD card.
The card that was announced last month will belong to SanDisk's Ultra II family of flash memory cards, and will therefore have a minimum write speed of 9 MB/sec. and a minimum read speed of 10 MB/sec. "
I know Sandisk doesn't have the best reputation for high speed and stability, but at 2Gig who can argue? Of course, I have yet to pick up a 1 GB card, so whether I hold out for the 2GB cards or not is yet to be decided. How much memory are you running these days?
I use a generic 256MB SD card in my Toshica e350. But I don't really like the way it works. It seems like no matter what player I use (WMP, Mortplayer, pocket music, etc.), it has problems. My main problem is when I pause a song, switch off my PDA and then come back later and try to pick back up. Some Pocket Music will start looping the next 20 seconds or so of the file. Mort just refuses to play until I exit the program and come back in or sometimes do a soft reset. I wonder if this is a card problem. Or is it normal?
I have a 1G Lexar card, 2 512's and 2 256's. I don't even use the 256's anymore. The 512's keep backups of all of my documents ever created on my work and home PC, and they arer accessible if needed. The 1G card has GPS maps, Photos, music and videos on it. It is already full.
I have the HP6315 and put the 2 512's in the spare card slots in the leather belt case. Very handy, plus they are often pressed into use to transfer new program downloads from work to home and vice versa. Just keep a card reader on both PC's and you are in like Flint.

I'm runnin with a 256SD (movie/ebooks) and a 512 CF for music and some images, etc.... tho I'll definetly be looking at one of these 2gig Sandisks as a great solution for carring multiple movies/tv eps/videos. As for problems with SD from sandisk, I don't know where people are coming from.. I've had a 128 and 256 sandisks (SD) and not once have I had a problems with them, am I in the minority?
And if anyone comes across any more killer deals on 1 gig SD, post em!

I have been debating large cards in my mind and if it best to use a few smaller cards or one large one.
What part are you wondering about? My thinking is to get the largest card available that's a reasonable price per MB. Today that seems to be 1 GB. The only 2 arguments I could see for smaller cards are if a) they are cheaper per MB or b) if you're particularly concerned about losing it. In reference to a) 512 MB and 1 GB cards seem to be roughly the same price per MB, so I don't think that's an issue. And for b) if you just have one card which you always keep in, you're not apt to lose it. If you have to keep track of several cards, you're more apt to lose one of those! All else being equal, why wouldn't you want 1 very large capacity card in your device?
I have one 1g SD card, and 2 256k SD cards. One of the 256's hold all my backups, and the other 256 holds, well...nothing much really. My 1g card has everything the empty 256 card had, since upgrading a couple of weeks ago. On it so far: 180 ebooks, 1 episode of "The L Word", all my avantgo and ie cache files, about 12 games programs (most by Astraware)my checkbook register, copies (not pocket versions) of all my critical word/excel/powerpoint docs from work, about 8 other misc programs, about 800 contacts, a couple of audio books from Audible.com, and I have not even gotten to the halfway point yet!
I have to admit, to surfing to check the prices for more 1g cards. The one I got was Lexar, from buy.com, for $78.00 with a $30 mail in rebate.

I have heard about errors on the larger cards, so for Mission Critical data I use smaller cards.
Also I tend not to mix personal pictures, songs, audio books with customer files.
I have avoided SanDisk products because of the terrible rep they earned a few years ago. Random corruptions, lost formatting and such were almost daily help posts for Axim users.
Has it gotten any better? Is SanDisk a bankable name yet or not? I'd love to buy one of these but I don't want to go through those headaches.
BTW- We are not getting those nice price breaks you guys are in North America. The best price I could get on a 512Meg CF (yes, "CF") card was 11000 yen, about $100 US... and that was two weeks ago... and that was the largest size they were offering.
Everyone thinks that just 'cause you live in Japan you must have access to the latest and greatest electronics and at great prices... Man, if you don't live in Tokyo or Osaka you might as well be stuck in a rice field in Bangladesh.

One of my friends has a 512 MB Sandisk card, and he's always having to mess with it to get it to work/be recognized, i.e. taking it out/putting it back, soft resetting, etc. Obviously that's just one example but I guess they don't have zero problems.
