IT's Arrived!

After MUCH waiting, and debating, I am finaly once again the proud owner of a pocket PC!!! THe HP hx4700 is charging as I type, cannot WAIT to get at it... few questions for those of you who may already have one up and running... how do I change the screen into proper VGA mode?
Besides the fact that the screen looks Amazing as it is, I would like to get it working with 2x the desktop real estate...
Thanks.
Bru...

It is always in VGA mode. You will have to change settings for the Today screen to make the font smaller. Then you have to set each program you run individually to a smaller font size. I recommend you use a browser other than PIE as it is really ugly in VGA due to quad pixelled images.

Ahh, ya, just shrunk the font size... and I've got a STACK of programs I wanna get my hands on now Will certain games like Age of EMpires reflect the new resolution?
Also, what browser would you (and others) recommend?

Games have to be written specifically for VGA to run at the higher resolution. SE will quad-pixel most other games which is OK, they just don't look quite as good. Warfare Inc runs completely at VGA and is gorgeous.
I use Netfront which isn't perfect but displays very nicely in VGA, portrait and landscape.

Netfront from Access is pretty good, I'm not sure if it supports VGA though. :?

jkendrick, I jsut installed Warfare Inc. but I ony have options for 320x240, nothing for VGA.. I've been using SE_VGA to get a "proper" vga screen, but that screws up the screen alighment, and the game dosen't actually abide by those settings....
ideas??

That's odd. I wonder if it's related to SE. I haven't installed it since upgrading the Toshiba to SE. I just figured it would work since it worked before. I'll install it and see if it works on my e800.

Bru, I installed WI on my Tosh and sure enough it no longer gives VGA as an option under SE. A quick trip to the WI support forum determines that others have complained and Handmark has not responded yet. I suspect it has to do with how SE reports the resolution of the device when you run it and a simple fix is all that's needed. After all, native VGA support is built right into the game. What a shame.

I have to say, while it would be nice to have a bigger play area in some games, the device is Amazing.. in normal view (non-SE_VGA), the screen quality is incredible, no pixalation of fonts, pictures look excellent.
The speed is a big bonus. the HX is super responsive, WiFi works like a charm, even across various networks. I did a little war-driving, using pocketWinc, found a suprising number of open networks in my neighbourhood The HX hopped onto those with no probs.
I know a lot of the reviews out there were complaining about the addition of the touchpad, and while it does take some adjustment, the ability to use the device one handed with mouse like interaction, is a Very nice feature. There is an included applet for switching the touchpad mode from "Navigation Mode", which is the traditional D-pad use, too "Cursor Mode" where you actually have a mouse, and laptop style usage. I personally like touchpads, so I may be biased.
Some other nice minor features, but definetly "nice-to-haves", screen blanking function built into Media Player, screen rotation as part of the OS, and some core functions added as standard to the iTask pop up menu (screen blank, mute, brightness, rotation, wireless).
One thing I did notice, I tried out Netfront for browsing, and I was highly un-impressed with the look. IE gives a Much nicer visual, better fonts, images don't lose quality..
I would like to have better control over the appearce of the menus/programs sections, fonts etc... and I find the power button a little awkward to press in a hurry, but beyond that, it has virtually every feature I could want, and I would Absolutly recommend the HX to any power user. I say power user due to the rather high price point the HX carries.
I guess you could say I'm happy
But Brad, is there a way too access a full version of pocketpcaddict on a mobile? I hate to be away from my favorite site

Tell PIE to emulate IE 6.0.

Tweaks2K2 has a hack that will tell sites that you are using IE 6.0 plus a number of other things that are very useful....
I had Netfront for Toshiba on my e805 and I tried installing it on my hx4705....but it's not working....I sent a message to Access to see if any of their products will support VGA...
Also...I've already recieved a Lil' Sync Pro and a C2 Screen protector from Pocket PC Techs...I'm using my Vaja case from my Toshiba...the hx4705 fits nicely.....
I've been playing around with the Stowaway IR Keyboard and it looks like I'm going to have to break down and buy a Bluetooth keyboard....Although I haven't figured out if the Bluetooth Keyboard lets you put the device sideways so you can view it in Landscape.....
