Don't know if you saw, but CNN did a package on security for the conventions.
Part of the security includeds Toshiba pocket pcs equiped with wifi. They are able to receive video from the main video feed live cameras.

The people in the main command center can contact a security person with a PPC in the field and send them a live video feed from a specific camera. I'm sure there were other goodies but they'd have to kill us after they told us.
PPCs are smaller than the Tablet PCs and bigger than smartphones. Blackberry and Palm are out where this application is concerned. Based on the new applications where security is concerned, I don't think PPC is going anywhere anytime soon.
