The Ipaqs are coming...The Ipaqs are coming...

CDW is now listing the iPAQ rz1715, rx3415, rx3715, hx4705, and h6315 all with a "1-2 week" ship time.
The hx4705 (pictured above) Pocket PC will have a 4-inch 640-by-480-pixel display. This will make it the first iPAQ to sport a VGA screen. Because it will use Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, the screen will support both portrait and landscape modes.
It will have a 624 MHz Intel XScale processor, 128 of RAM, and 64 MB of ROM. About 20 MB of the ROM will be available to the user as a File Store.
The hx4700 will include an infrared port (SIR), Wi-Fi (802.11b), and Bluetooth 1.2. This latest version of the Bluetooth standard has been designed to reduce interference between wireless technologies.
This handheld will also have a CompactFlash slot and an SD/MMC slot. It isn't known if it supports SDIO, but it seems likely.
I think the hx4705 is going to make a big splash, especially with all the rumors of Toshiba getting out of the PDA market. I know alot of you have been holding off until a good VGA device comes out. Is this on your list of purchases? how do you think the device will be without a D-pad?

Having not seen a HX4700 device in use, I personally find it is difficult to say how the d-pad (or lack of!) will feel.
Although I do have my suspicions!
Based on my use of laptop computers, I can't stand the finger/touch sensitive pads and find them to be a poor mouse replacement (I always take along an external mouse).
I can't see that it will have a positive effect on my gaming experience either (and at $600 + that should be a GREAT gaming experience). At this point I am waiting to actually play with the HP VGA device before running off (screaming) and slapping my money down on a new VGA Asus.
I would've gone with a VGA Dell (despite the rumours of poor customer service) except a device without combined BT and WIFI is just a brick to me.
A VGA device is nice but it's gonna take a lot more than just a pretty screen for me to be splash me dosh (e.g. Fast processor, Lots of memory, BT & WIFI, lots of battery power/efficient power consumption and preferably SD and CF slots).
Hopefully I'm wrong and the HX4700 is a gamers delight, but I guess time will tell..... once people have sucked it and seen (Ewww! )
