Even though we've seen a review or two of the Socket GPS Navigation Kit, it is such a high-ticket item at $439.00 (you can get a NICE Pocket PC for that price shipped!), it's good to read what others think about it for the sake of comparison. Another good review of socket's Bluetooth GPS offering was just posted over at Aximsite. I've always thought bluetooth would be the way to go with a GPS add-on so we could avoid the wires. "When you think of devices from Socket Communications you think of their popular Wifi CF and SD LAN cards. Also their Bluetooth CF and SD cards come to mind. This go around we are going to talk about their Bluetooth GPS card. The Socket Bluetooth GPS Nav Kit supports any Bluetooth enabled Pocket PC running either Pocket PC 2002 or Windows Mobile 2003. The Kit also comes with navigation software bundled with maps for North America and Western Europe. Let's take a closer look at the Socket Bluetooth GPS Nav Kit."
I was able to get a SAT fix in about 10 seconds. A cold start with this GPS can take nearly 30 seconds
Thats pretty quick. My Compact Flash GPS can take up to 3 - 4 minutes to get a SAT fix. Not only that but I can't be moving and get a fix. Therefore I can start on my journey and set it up...I have to sit in front of the house -- get a fix -- and then start out on my journey...but I guess you get what you pay for...My whole setup was less than half the price of this setup.

True, you do get what you pay for, but how many trips do you take that are only 4 minutes from your destination AND requiring GPS + GPS fix? :P
P.S. How are things coming with the map company? Did you get your product yet?
