bios magazine has written some information about the new barcode scanning solutions from Socket. If you handle a lot of inventory, etc. These don't look to bad to me. The CF in-hand scan card and SDIO In-Hand Scan Card do not appear to add much bulk to a standard Pocket PC, and might add some speed to reconciling inventory. "Socket Communications has announced a new range of data collection products for mobile computers. Targeted at military, courier, healthcare, automotive and other applications requiring both barcode scanning and image capture, highlights of the range include a cordless handheld scanner and a compact barcode scanner with built-in Bluetooth. The latter is of particular interest because it combines laser barcode scanning with Bluetooth, allowing you to scan to a Pocket PC handheld (other devices will be supported from August). The handheld scanner also includes Fuzzy Logic for reading damaged or poor-quality barcodes. Another product in the range, the In-Hand Scan Card-Imager, plugs into a Pocket PC's CompactFlash slot and allows you to scan linear (1D) and stacked barcodes as well as still images up to 640x480 pixels."
