Ipaqabilities reporting on the Ipaq 4700

Here's an article over at Ipaqabilities that gave me goosebumps!
An Ipaq 47xx is due out this summer with a 4 inch VGA screen and a 600MHZ processor! WooHoo! It sounds awesome!
According to their source, the Hx4700 will have the following specs:
624 MHz Intel processor
4" VGA screen
Windows Mobile SE
WiFi, Bluetooth and IR
128MB RAM, 64MB ROM
CompactFlash and Secure Digital slots
Touchpad
1800 mAh battery
HP is expected to release this unit, along with at least two others at some point in July. Pricing is unknown, but given HP's history, it's not unreasonable to expect a price point north of $600.

How the hell is that going to affect me gaming?

This is preliminary and I would expect that to change...I know I wouldn't want a touchpad instead of buttons....games are what make these gadgets fun!

I honestly feel that you won't find many apps that push a device as hard as a game.
Other than playing a movie, I can't really think of an app to display a devices raw power and guts.
It'd be like OO! look at my new spreadsheet, it's got colour AND formulas.
Not the same as watch me kick Michaels Schumacher's @rse in this racing game.
Anyway! more, give me more information on the new devices coming out. I luv it.

Isn't this almost the cost of a basic laptop? Not that they are for the same purpose, but I will need a way to justify this to my wife.

What's there to justify when you NEEEEED it? It's a basic human need.

Pretend your laptop is broken and tell her you're going to buy a replacement laptop...When you come home with this device...then your laptop can miraculously become fixed.

Just to tweak BK's post a little...your laptop is "broken" you need a new one...so what do you do? You save the house a BUNCH of money by purchasing a PPC which you can "make work" -- you are such a martyr :P . Then you take your laptop to a buddy in a week or so and he fixes it :P

If your wife doesn't let you get a $600 PPC then try Stomping up and down the steps REALLY loudly...
I haven't tried it yet myself, but my kids seem to perform this ritual whenever they cannot have something they really want.
Let me know if it works!

And last advice from me- be a real man and just get it. Put up with all the c**p later. Yeah, that's what I'd do.

I agree with James. In fact I think I heard that same advice on Dr. Phil. Good advice, you should listen to it.

Why not compromise, you buy the Hx4700 AND purchase your wife a pair of new shoes. Now what woman can resist a pair of new shoes (or pantyhose for that matter) .
Just sweeten that bitter pill

Do the obvious -
Buy it for your wife.
I have bought my wife a boat, a big screen TV , a surround sound system....
it is not my fault she does not use them.... I even get her an annual subscription to NFL Sunday Ticket.

Yup! sexist, bigoted, but TRUE (not for all women I know, there's always some that are an exception. Personally I just think there spoiling the fun .)
I would like to point out that the statement was sexist and bigoted, but that in actual fact I'm not , I'm just lovely, ask my mum .
Well someones gonna have to buy the devices just so we can take a good look at it and admire the looks, if nothing else.

Gotta Agree...

Look, I have to agree with what was said earlier.
The only way to pull this puppy off is the "dual buy".
Meaning simply, you are going to have to buy her something the same time you buy this. It's going to have to be something really "Schmoopy" too man. I guess some examples would be a nice dinner out with a tennis bracelet strategically placed somewhere at dinner for her to find, a day at the spa and two dozen roses can replace the bracelet if you need to. Not everyone's rich like me.
The reason for two dozen roses is obvious. Women get roses and women get a dozen roses, but only special women get two dozen roses man. Trust me, it works. Have them sent to work also, if you do this. She'll love the attention (good and bad) it gets. Its always a spectacle at the office when a woman gets roses.
The good thing about this is you get two things out of this. You get your new kick butt turbo PPC and, well...hopefully something after your evening out.
I meant a hug fellas...jeesh you all have a one track mind.
Okay, I didn't just mean a hug.

My wife read the thread

I decided to let my wife know that my manly needs were just not being met by my e750 with all of the toys. (I just spent a bunch on 3gigs of storage.)
She caught on quick and realized I was fishing for a new PDA.
Unfortunately I left this thread up on the screen, she had to reboot her computer, saw this thread was up on the screen...enough said.
Boy I can't wait for Windows Mobile 2006 to come out so I can upgrade.

I think you should just cry until your eyes malfunction, then have a pocket PC surgically inserted into each orbit.

If the 47xx series includes VGA out capabilities (ability to attach an external monitor) and has a decent external keyboard available then it seems like this would be a decent notebook-replacement. (Obviously not if the notebook is your only PC)
Within this context, a $600 pricetag is more justifiable.
