ABI research has performed a study on Aftermarket navigation systems and concludes that "For the occasional user, there is little reason to buy an aftermarket in-vehicle navigation system at this time," argues ABI Research analyst Dan Benjamin. "Soon many users will be able to access navigation services on their wireless phones on a pay-per-route basis. They could also use their PDAs with an add-on GPS kit for significantly less than a navigation system with similar functionality, and still have a PDA to use for other functions."
This study is dear to my heart because I just purchased a Compact Flash GPS unit for my Toshiba, Mapopolis software and an Arkon powered PDA car mount all for about $200 and I couldn't be happier. The software has voice turn by turn directions and will give you directions by your GPS position. This means if I go off route (which I've done) it will re-route me to my destination. Very cool!
As a side note: Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been posting as much. My last contract ended and I have been busting my hump 24/7 lately trying to find that next contract. Therefore, until things are a little more stable around the bkbroil household, I have devote all of my free time to business development for myself. Wish me luck!
