Toshiba e750/755 - iPaq 2210/2215 - Which one??

I've been doing a fair amount of research on the various brands of PocketPCs out there and am nearing my purchase decision. I can't get to the stores and do any hands-on comparisons at the moment as I currently find myself in Qatar with the USAF, so I need your help.
I'm really intrigued by the Toshiba e750/755 and the iPaq 2210/2215. I currently have an iPaq 3650 that is getting a little long in the tooth. One stipulation is my price range is $300-$400.
I like the fact that both have CF and SD slots and consider wireless to be a selling point. Anyway, convince me on which one to buy. Why is one better than the other? Are there other choices that may be better ideas? Also, where is the best place to purchase said PDA?
Thanks,
Brent

I find myself in a similar boat, tho my decision to upgrade was promted by dropping and breaking my ipaq 3850 (ACK!).
I've been looking at the Toshiba e805, largely because of the CF and SD(IO) slot, I won't have to sacrifice any of my memory cards. Built in wireless is critical point as well. I know bkbroil on here is a big fan of the toshiba.
Doubt that helps much

I have an iPAQ 2215... absolutely love it. If it had WiFi instead of BT, it would be perfect.
Now is probably NOT the best time to change PPCs. You should wait for WM2003SE to be released and see (A) what new models are announced and (B) which manufacturers will be offering upgrades to their existing models.
At that point, you will have an excellent idea of what the PPC landscape will look like for the following 6 months. You can then decide to get an older model with a WM2003SE upgrade, or start bargain hunting for the new models.
If you will need to sell your current PPC, I strongly recommend doing it now. Tax refunds are finding their way into gadget freaks' mailboxes and the school year is winding down... now's a great time to sell electronic gadgets. My friends and I are seeing some insanely high winning bids on eBay lately.

I agree

I'd definitely wait until the WM2003SE PDAs come out.
I love my HP 1945. I know its not what you're looking at, but I can tell you I want the OS upgrade and I'm screwed for not waiting.
Also, HP is great when it comes to these. The best out of three I've owned so far and one of the others was a Toshiba I got little, if any, support for.
To be fair, Toshiba has made some strides in the PDA dept. since I owned mine.

I am an ipaq 2215 owner too. I think it's a powerful device. Built in Wifi would be awesome, but I do need bluetooth sometimes and have a WiFi CF card, so I am happy enough.
I am wrestling with the side grips though. They've sent me 3 replacements so far. each has failed.
Going to the PPCTechs.com side grip option. I am hoping that once they are applied, I'll have the perfect device.

Always a better One

There is always going to be a better cheaper PPC every month. Since you probably don't want to wait forever buy the one that you like.
I bought the 750 because it fit in my hand better. I've had quite a few handhelds and one of the major things I look for is ergonomics. I'm not a small guy and while I like the idea of smaller it often results in cramps in my hands.
It seems like the HP has far more gadgets to attach and cover it with. But for me the Toshiba worked great because of some of the features.
Some people say negative things about their tech support. But I have had to call them twice about problems and they have been the best tech support I have seen. (Both problems were caused by my stupidity.)
So in short, don't worry about specs and this and that, buy the one that feels right for you. The one that you will feel good carrying. Both will get the job done. If you have to wait a quarter second longer for it to execute something, you probably won't die.

If waiting for WM2004SE is the issue, if the last OS upgrade is any example, most places will offer a free upgrade if you have bought within a couple of months of the new release. I even managed to upgrade my Ipaq 3850.
I'm going to be buying as well very soon, just hoping that Toshiba will offer an OS upgrade

That's assuming that they offer an upgrade at all. That's the crux of the matter. History is no indicator of future plans and it just doesn't seem to be prudent to buy a new device now without knowing if an upgrade will be available.

Well...

It is a gamble as to whether or not they will provide a free upgrade (or an upgrade at all) for a device you go out and buy right now.
If you can wait and don't mind it for the devices with the new OS installed...do it. If not, well, gambling is not illegal really.

WM 2004

So what is so great about this upgrade again?
It does have some neat features, but nothing that an add-in program can't do.
I also heard a rumor that some software will be incompatible with this OS.
Personally, from what I have read I wouldn't upgrade for a while. My PPC works just fine without these features. If I want to turn the screen sideways Nydoit works great. If I want to view videos or listen to music, the current version or Windows Media works just fine.
I really understand the desire to have the latest and greatest. You have to ask yourself if you really need it and what it might cost you.
Just getting SE to have it won't impress too may people. A friend of mine who has 2002 on his PPC still gets the job done (Plus he bought a TIVO with the money he saved).

WM2003SE is supposed to have native landscape mode... that is switchable on-the-fly. There are also some miscellaneous fixes to existing problems in WM2003. I haven't seen a list of everything that is included. IMO, it is better to have capabilities that are native to the OS and designed to be integrated with a system than to buy an add-on application to do the same thing.
The fact that we don't exactly know is a good reason to wait.

That's quite possible. WM2003 also broke quite a few applications that worked just fine on PPC2002.

You can't intelligently make that determination until it is actually released. Making a decision prior to that is premature and unwise, IMO.

Ummm, no one said anything about impressing anyone so I don't know what THAT has to do with THIS.

My opinion.......and you knew this was coming.....is sell your old iPaq and get $100 - $150 for it on eBay and add that to your $400 that you have to buy a new PPC and get a..........Toshiba e80x (if you can find one) the VGA screen will leave the rest in the dust...I've owned a couple of PPCs and I can't imagine what it would be like in QVGA anymore..
Forget about WM2003SE and use MyVGA from www.PocketPCTools.com...The Toshiba with MyVGA and some other software (TextMaker, ICQ etc....) does everything that a laptop can do..
You can take this with a grain of salt because I'm very biased and LOVE my Toshiba...
I hope you find the PPC for you and keep us informed...I always like to hear what people choose and why they chose it...

Thanks all! The only problem is now the e80x is now on my radar screen. :?
Staypuft, I appreciate your candor, and you're right, if it takes another half a second to open something, I won't die.
It'll probably be mid-June before I get home and am able to actually start shopping, but I'll definitely post a note to let everyone know which one I bought, and how I like it.
Again, thanks.

Yes, I did, in fact, purchase a new PPC this summer.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread re: my upcoming purchase of a new PPC. After months of research and much deliberation, I decided that if I keep waiting for the absolute "perfect" machine to appear, I'll never actually buy anything. So, after weighing all the factors I finally settled on the Asus MyPal A716. The CF and SD slots coupled with built-in wireless all for under $400 (okay, only $.05 under, but it's still technically under $400 - at CompUPlus.com) closed the deal. I hope to have it in my hot little hands within the next 2-3 days.

AAARGH! Can't wait for FEDEX to deliver my new toy, I mean work tool. According to their tracking it is in town, but it hasn't come to my door yet. I bet the driver is going to deliver it last, just to make me wait. Yeah, that's it, the driver has it in for me.

Alas, no delivery yet. I guess this should be a lesson to me about not ordering something around a holiday weekend.

Those Jerks at Fedex! You could almost drive there and pick it up....Don't they know how bad you want it! You plan on spending your Saturday night playing with your new toy and they mess it all up! I feel for ya'....I've been in this position more times than I care to think about....checking the tracking number every hour or so...hoping to see a message "Fedex delivery person is pulling up your street."

It's here! It's here! Fedex FINALLY decided to deliver my new toy . . . er, I mean tool today. I gotta say, the brightness of the screen is amazing, the wi-fi is cool, and the built in slots are awesome. Now I just need to get all my data input into E-Wallet, ListPro, and Recordian (Iliumsoft, good stuff) and I'll be set. Oh, and another cool thing, it came with an extra battery. Not sure if that's normal or if I just lucked out. I'll post more later after I've had it a few days and can give a better review than "it's neat!"
