Hi,
I am new to PDA's, and this forum.
My work bought me a Dell AXIM X30. I'd like to put some classic arcade type games on it (like pacman, etc). So far, I've had no luck downloading freeware and having it run.
What am I doing wrong?
The best places to obtain games or software in general would be either: www.Handango.com www.Pocketgear.com
or you could try www.Clickgamer.com
If you are downloading software from an archive site you have to ensure the game you are downloading is compatible with your devices operating system (O/S), e.g. PocketPc 2002, WM2003 or WM2003se.
I understand that your devices OS is WM2003se, which is quite good as most games from the other OS listed above should be compatible (but not ALL unfortuately).
Once you've identified a game that is compatible with your system, it needs to be downloaded to you PC. Setting a dedicated download folder for PPC apps and games is a good idea, you should be able to find the items then once the download has been finished.
To download the game an icon or hyperlink needs to be clicked on (you can generally tell a hyper link as it should be a different colour from the rest of the text, underlined and the cursor will change to a pointy hand when passed over the link - see the above links for examples).
Once the link is clicked on a download dialogue box is displayed from this box you can designate where you want to download the software to (I recommend C:/PPC Downloads for example).
Once the software has been downloaded, you need to go to C:/PPC Downloads (example). You should see the file that you just downloaded.
Click on the file and depending on the installation software it may want to be installed on you Pc first (again a dedicated folder would help here such as C:/PPC Installed files).
or the software may install directly to your device in which a dialogue screen will be displayed that will ask whether you want to install the software and whether you want to install it to main memory (which is generally very limited and not a good place to install games to) or to a storage card (which are designed for just such instances, if you don't have a storage card I suggest you get an SD card with the largest capacity you can afford, search here for SD card google.
Once the games has been installed, your should be able to find it on your device by the following actions:
Tap start
Tap Programmes
Tap Games
A link to your game should be displayed there.
Just tap on it and enjoy.
Hopefully this helps you. If not please post more specific details of what you are doing (e.g. site the game is from, what pc system you have etc, and the specific problem you are having.
Oh! and by the way, welcom to PPCA
