Could it be that AT&T is threatened by the release of Google Voice? If the application does become popular, AT&T could take some serious losses in revenue due to features like free texting and 2-cent international calls.
It does make us wonder if there may be some tension arising between Google and Apple. If Apple wanted to eliminate users from making cheap international calls, they would have blocked Skype and all of the other apps that let you do the same. For free text messages, they would have also gotten rid of such programs like FreeMMS. We do know that if Google releases an app, it would draw a lot more attention from consumers, so it looks like Apple is trying to make a statement to programmers worldwide in this rejection...
Why Apple has rejected this exciting new app and similar ones such as GV Mobile and Voice Central remains a mystery for now...
There may be hope yet! Google is already annoucing a replacement for the Google voice app that gives users the same features except it's accessible online.
