Both RIM and Apple seem to be doing extremely well in the Smartphone market. According to Dutsche Bank analyst, Brian Modoff, the two companies account for only 3% of the global cell phone market, yet comprise 35% of all operating profits in the industry! Needless to say, both RIM and Apple have very effective strategies. Their market share, and profits will only rise as Apple is expected to release a new version or new handset in about a year, and RIM has some highly anticipated devices soon to be released. While Nokia still ranks number one, it’s a possibility that both companies are positioned to take 40% before the year is out. Where’s Windows Mobile? Soon to disappear? It definitely doesn’t help that HTC just announced that they plan to release 50% of all their phones on the Android OS by 2010. We’ll have to wait to see what happens to Windows Mobile when 7 gets released.
