T-Mobile said today that it has launched its first commercial high-speed wireless service in New York City! Of course, the plan to expand the service is to come. The service is going to be starting fro 20 to 25 major US markets by the end of the year.
Yes, it did take a while, but finally it has arrived.
The new service is the technology that many of us had longed to hear. It is the HSDPA. It will boost the T-Mobile web speeds by about four time initially. It should also double the data speed afterward, when the carrier finally decided to bring in any new HSDPA phone in the third quarter.
T-Mobile is saying that its initial data speed will be 200 kilobits per second to 300 kbps. Right now, its current speed is at 50 to 80 kbps.
T-Mobile was holding it in until this day. Mainly because only some of their exclusive devices will be benefiting these. So waiting a bit longer for some devices that will get a full use of this new network. Some of those are BlackBerry smartphones that are lining to come out sometimes in the near future.
