How Will Recession Affect Smartphone Market?

If you read articles on newspaper, magazine, or just some online resources, I'm sure you've seen the word "recession". I'm not writing on here to complain that we're (or are not) in recession, but only because I read an article that sounds like it could be beneficial and could let us know how much affect will it be on us smartphone users.

This is an article that I found on BrightHand. It was written by Ed Hardy.

What Hardy has predicted is a bit interesting. I do see some of the points that he made could possibly be true. He's simply saying that during these downturn of the economy, the big and small companies are relying on the employees that they have. The want these employees to be more reliable and "reachable" (I came up with that one by summing one of his point).

By wanting the employees "reachable" and being reliable to do all the work, they need to be able to work from wherever. What is it that'll help them work from wherever? It's either laptop or smartphones! Of course, companies' laptops are usually uber nice and it's a bit overkilled. A lot of people only uses it to check e-mails so that they can be reached from time to time. That, brought up by Mr. Hardy, could be changed by giving them the smartphones instead. He also pointed out that you can look at the Financial report from HTC.

Why would they want to give the employees the smartphones instead? They can check the e-mails as much as the laptop with probably less money all around. The cost of the laptop, the cost of the wireless card. That can be saved by a cost of the phone with a plan that probably gets some subsidization because it was bought with a batch of plans.

Hardy also added that iPhones will be the bridge that reaches the normal day-to-day users to smartphones. Obviously, iPhones are not the cheapest, but it's definitely getting a lot of attention. It's breaking through the gates of smartphones. Even though there are other phones that could do these functions, but it's Steve Jobs' secrecy and Apple's marketing that brought down that gate.

Read it here, if you're interested!
