Well, we all know what Skype is, right? If not, click here.
It's great and all, but what happens when you're out of WiFi area? Bye bye Skype? Well, I guess there's Skype clients that works on Mobile Windows and Symbian, but the charges are not that nice.
Recently, Skype has been working with European company 3 to work Skype over the phone's 3G HSDPA network. The phone will finally be able to work and be able to switch between Skype and Cell network, since 3G HSDPA is mighty fast.
No words yet on how much it'd cost, but it should be coming in next month in UK, Italy, Hong Kong and Australia. US, of course, is getting shafted at the moment.
Not sure if the Skype will be free on the 3G, but it's a step up from before, eh? Oh.. and the phone doesn't look too bad either.
Skype calling is limited to 3's coverage zone and not roaming zones from other carriers. In Australia this limits skype use to some parts of Metropolitan centres only. Otherwise a great concept, but needs the infrastructure to support the intention.
