It hasn't happened yet. We don't even know if it'll happen, but there might be a good chance of that happening. However, the analysts are thinking that it could happen and it might happening sometimes soon.
According to an article this morning in Kansas City Star, which was reported by the guys at Boy Genius Report, is saying that Deutsche Telekom is now an analyst-favorite to swoop in and save the day for Sprint. I mentioned "saving the day" because we all know that Sprint isn't doing too well.
Sprint's shares are dirt cheap. It's down about 50% since the beginning of 2008. Not to mention that it already went 50% down from September before hand. (Today, it was closed at $6.80). Not only the situation between Sprint and its stockholders aren't going so well, the Dollar isn't exactly the strongest currency of them all at the moment. For Deutsche Telekom, it's almost 25% off, since its currency (Euro) is going mighty strong and our is... taking a vacation. The analysts that are making this prediction is from Merrill Lynch.
The reasons and beliefs of this are that the price of Sprint and T-Mobile are at the best competitive rate, if not the best price for the plans. However, the price for Sprint is being slashed lower and lower because of the losing numbers of subscribers and values. T-Mobile cannot slash their price anymore, Sprint HAS to. Wall Street Journal is predicting that Sprint seems to likely be losing more and more shares and subscribers (with very minimal gains). With all of this happening, the acquisition could be happening sooner.
If this is really happening, maybe Deutsche Telekom will be able to do something that Sprint could never do... merging Nextel and Sprint. Maybe one day with T-Mobile... and customer service
