Although Microsoft was not successful at bringing Windows Mobile on Nokia devices, they are successful at convincing Nokia to bring up one of their products to be on the Symbian-based phones.
Microsoft's Silverlight is coming to Symbian based phones. Microsoft is trying to take some of the market away from Lite. Starting with Windows Mobile, Microsoft already added the Silverlight running (or available to download here). Not only they have convinced Nokia to put some of the silver-love on their S60, Nokia is also happy to put that love down for S40 dumbphones as well.
Apparently, it's been happening for a while because the development is already underway and the early cut will be shown sometime this week at MIX08. (I've looked around and I have absolutely no idea what MIX stands for... Except, maybe Microsoft Internet Explorer!?). The developer tools will be available sometimes this year also.
For now, it's looking great for S40 and S60, the internet tablet versions will be confirmed later. Honestly, this is a great deal for Microsoft, since nabbing number 1 phone maker in the world to join partner up with you isn't going to hurt you one bit... or so I think.
