I've been holding off on writing about this for a while because I'm not hundred percent sure about the issues here. So far I've been using my device without really thinking anything about. I even posted numbers of articles on the HTC Touch, or how it's been selling like hotcakes! I guess I feel that I can't be too quiet any longer and I need to let you guys know!
I randomly found out about this a while back, but I didn't think of it too much, nor did I think that this was a solid case at all. There are some issues with phones by the HTC. The problem is not as breathe taking as blowing up in your hands or next to your head or anything like that at all. More of an issue with putting them together. Either they forget or didn't really care to included certain drivers for the devices to make it work to their full potential.
So essentially, it means that our devices are not performing as well as it could have. You've spent hundreds on the device, while you only are getting maybe 60% - 70% of those back. (I completely made up those numbers, I don't know the actual figures) The report was saying that it could be operating at even slower that HTC's devices 2 years ago.
The drivers are responsible to almost everything to do with your device. Normal programs, video playbacks, games, taking pictures and so on. There are also some issues with the touchscreen driver. Sometimes it makes your device works very slowly when you touch the screen. Some of the times that could happening would be when you watch the video and decided to adjust the volume on the player and the video just stops.
What so bad/sad about all these things is not that HTC let this error slips to the public. I'm sure the public can figure it out if they decided to release the drivers or something. The bad thing (almost worst) thing that I think is the response from the HTC:
Quote:
HTC is committed to delivering a portfolio of devices that offer a wide variety of communication, connectivity and entertainment functionality. HTC does not offer dedicated or optimized multimedia devices and can confirm that its Qualcomm MSM7xxx-based devices do not use ATI’s Imageon video acceleration hardware.
HTC believes the overall value of its devices based on their combination of functionality and connectivity exceeds their ability to play or render high-resolution video. These devices do still provide a rich multimedia experience comparable to that of most smartphones and enable a variety of audio and video file formats.
HTC values its customers and the overall online community of mobile deviceenthusiasts and fans. HTC plans to include video acceleration hardware in future video-centric devices that will enable high-resolution video support.
Pretty much it was a slap to the face and say "just move on, who cares?". Now, what kind of devices are effected? Here's the list:
HTC TyTN II (MSM7200), also known as:
HTC Kaiser
T-Mobile MDA Vario III
AT&T Tilt
Vodafone v1615
HTC Touch Dual (MSM7200), also known as:
HTC Nike
HTC Touch Cruise (MSM7200), also known as:
HTC Polaris
HTC Wings (MSM7200), also known as:
HTC S730
HTC Titan (MSM7500), also known as:
Sprint Mogul PPC-6800
Verizon XV6800
HTC Vogue (MSM7500), also known as:
HTC Touch P3050 (this is notthe normal HTC Touch)
Sprint Touch
Verizon Touch XV6900
HTC Libra (MSM7500), also known as:
HTC S720
HTC Iris (MSM7500), also known as:
HTC S640
After I posted about the greatness of HTC last year, I'm a bit sadden by this post. My device is effected. Worst part is that the previous one was too! So I guess that's why I didn't see that big of a difference between my Wing and my HTC Touch (or Sprint Touch).
What can you do? Well, this site will tell you exactly what you can do. Maybe HTC will work something out with all of us? I don't know. All I know is that we were shafted I'm not too happy, but I still am liking my Touch. However, if the performance will double up or increase by how many ever percent, I'll be happy.
What do you guys think? What was/were, is/are your experience(s) with your device now?
I think so. The problem is with the device that has a new Qualcomm chipset. I don't know if the QC is the problem, but I think that all of them with the QC are effected.
so far, it doesn't seem like HTC is going to do anything about it. I don't even know the drivers. They're not releasing anything about it. Anything you've found online is probably found by some other people and reported it online.
Its sad that HTC is not planning to do anything about the current devices. HTC is such a big company that so many users are affected. They could have gotten an even bigger market share if they fixed the problem. Imagine the great, positive PR they would have gotten if they had actually fixed the problem.

Well I have been using it for over a year now and I usually change my phones every couple of months.
Is it the perfect phone? Far from it. I used to face problems here and there but thankfully I have found solutions for it. And that lead me to create Eten Blog dot Com which was initially targeted at like users but of late, has attracted users of other manufacturers as well.
I think the main idea is that you buy a device that works best for you. It's gone beyond looking at specs and more at how the device will work best (or as best as possible) for you.

i have the ppc6800. sad thing is, i got it right before Christmas, and didnt know anything about the drivers and such until my 30 day return was up. so now im screwed....thanks htc, you suck! selling a more expensive device today that is slower then the one you sold 2 years ago?? truely a cheap low blow to the consumers "you value and care about". and its NOT just for watching videos. i have none on my phone, yet my touch screen responds real slow. i hope someone else finds a fix for this and they get paid handsomely for it, cuz i d*mn sure wont trust htc with a fix...they already put me in a big enough one!
they said that they'll take care of it, but only for the new devices. so they'll resolve this issue for the newer devices, so we're still stuck with these issues...
i predict that by december of 08 htc will have lost its spot as a top 3 in the handheld/phone biz. all the reports seem to point to the same 'bait and switch' 'we dont really care' attitude. very crappy way to treat customers.
i know this isnt the place to post this, but since im here and cant find the 'report spam' button, ill post it here. has anyone else recieved this mssg?
Hi,I'm new here, how's it going?"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things as a meaningful unity" - Albert Einstein---Stephaniehttp://stephanie2.110mb.com
it was a pm, and i have no idea why it was sent to me. if its not spam, sorry, but i dont know why this person would feel compelled to send me this.
forum leaders...can you check on this please? for now, i would suggest no one go to that so called site
I think so. The problem is with the device that has a new Qualcomm chipset. I don't know if the QC is the problem, but I think that all of them with the QC are effected.
I have an Alltel ppc6800...same as the mogul I believe....anyway it looks like I'm running a Qualcomm(R)7500..is this the one you speak of?
thanks
I don't think Mogul is effected. The Qualcomm chipset that's effected is the newer one. I think yours was the one right before the whole shmole thing happened
Hi
I'm not sure if Mogul is affected or not (i have P4000, same as Mogul just different name) but im experiencing slowliness too. I though it was because i installed many apps (around 5 or 6) now now that i think about it, a year ago had HP hx2490, had much more apps installed on it, and it flew like a bird.
True that the processor was a bit higher, P4000 is 400 Mhz, and hx2490 is 500 Mhz but sill, the video played extremely well on the hp. While on P4000, even without any softwares installed, Video played isnt so great. The best format i found was WMV. so everytime i have to convert. Core player plays all video frame by frame, even though i lowered the bitrate in the settings. So, again, im not sure if its affected, but its a bit slow too. My OS is WM6 btw.
