Google Gears Arrived For Windows Mobile

Google Gears has been available for PC for a while. Now, they've been developing a mobile version for quite sometimes. It probably has some kind of effects that they want to release their own Android.

Google, AJAX-loving people, has released a mobile version of this off-line platform. It is finally available for Windows Mobile! Here's the message from Google:

Google Gears is now available on Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices.

Mobile devices are, by their nature, often disconnected from the network. Even when connected, the latencies in data connections in mobile networks can make web applications sluggish. Google Gears gives developers the tools to overcome these obstacles.

Google Gears works in exactly the same way on a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device as it does on a desktop PC. If you've already written an application that uses Google Gears, your application will also work on a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device. Except, of course, only within the limitations of that device. This means you need to consider things such as small screen and limited ability to input text as well as the limitations of the Document Object Model and CSS APIs present on mobile devices. Limitations of Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices are discussed later in this document.

About Google Gears. The mission of Google Gears is to extend the capabilities of web browsers. It is supposed to be a bridge between the developers that have done work for the PC, but will work on the Mobile users like us. They also are trying to make this thing goes across platform. Usually, when we use hotmail or some mail services on our computer, it'd be a complete different service than the one on the phone. This will hopefully closing that gap down too.

They also have a video for us to watch if we're interested. You can find it here.

i havent heard of google gears before and i watched some of the interview (long and boring) so i skimmed thru and basically i guess the idea is that they want to put everything offline so you can access it without a data connection and it would also be fast just like using an application...

am i right about this?

my guess is as good as yours in this one. I actually fell asleep while trying to find out.

Just kidding, but I think you're getting the right idea I'm not sure if it's for us to access the data though, but it's for off-line to join the fun (in developing?)
