Both Engadget and Gizmodo have reported that sometimes this year, Sprint will launch dual-mode phone that can use CDMA/WiMAX sometimes this year. Many are very excited, but for some others, they're not really excited at all.
Sprint lost about $29.5 billion this past quarter. They've lost so many subscribers and still expecting to lose more this quarter than they have lost the last whole year. The only thing that seems to be going right for them is their 4G revolution. Dan Hesse has joined the team for about a month and has been doing a lot of change, but there are still lots of trouble to come.
However, Hesse did mention and confirmed that they will be releasing dual CDMA/WiMAX handsets sometimes this year. That also means they're really serious and things will be good when the WiMAX comes about. That's probably the thing that can save them. I also wonder if the Simply Unlimited Plan will be covering the usage of WiMAX.
In any case, Sprint will let their subscribers use the potential of the new technology soon. If you're willing to pay, then this is good. If not... Sprint is screwed.
