Well, it's not really true... yet. Samsung was awarded the best phone in category of "one-handed keyboard with touchscreen". At least the review said so. I'm not even sure who awarded it... the Mobile World Congress? or MSMobiles?
The reason I had that as a name of the article is because HTC has been doing touchscreen devices for quite a while now and Samsung just joined in to make Windows Mobile devices with touchscreen not too long ago and it was awarded the best already!? Wow... go Samsung!
OK, let's focus on the device. This is Samsung i780. Here's some of the specifications:
[unique feature] touch-pad or "optical mouse" as Samsung calls it, what means that there is no cursor-pad but instead a flat area that works like touch-pads in notebooks (including a mouse cursor that appears on the display)
[unique feature] 320x320 display to show more information than QVGA (240x320)
ultra-fast 624 MHz processor from Marvel (a company that purchased XScale processor business from Intel)
HSDPA 3.6 MB/s
WiFi 802.11 b/g
Bluetooth
powered by Windows Mobile 6
128 MB of RAM memory
proprietary Samsung connectors both for handset and charging so no mini-USB and no 2.5 mm stereo headsets are usable with this phone without adapters
assisted GPS is built-in
The processor is lighting fast! There's even a video of it if you want to see here. I really like the screen though. Granted it's not VGA, but it is an improvement from all HTC's QVGA (240 x 320). I'm sure battery will last decently long compared to HTC devices.
Unfortunately, it's not going to be available to the US yet, but it'll be through private imports, so whenever and whoever gets it for you, then cool. Also, it only has 2.0MP camera.
The i780 is a dream-come-true to many. HTC doesn't really do a one-hand (Treo/BlackBerry-like) phone that you don't need to slide open for a keyboard. There's even a "mouse" for the device. It is a frigging sweet device and I want to put my oily hands on that sexy beasts.
.... I need to stop posting news now... I just called a device "sexy beast"...
