While its been about three years since the initial announcement, TerreStar has now received an impressive $300 million to fund its efforts to place the TerreStar-1 satellite into orbit. With funding coming from EchoStar and Harbinger Capital Partners, the satellite will power cellphones that will be able to use the traditional terrestrial network when no other signal is available. TerreStar is being aggressive on the initial launch saying they expect to shoot for the end of this year. Arianespace is to provide the transport into space during December 2008 and February 2009. I wonder how much this service would cost.
