Oh man... I thought that I would never use this picture associating with AT&T again. Boy, was I wrong.
As Engadget reports it, the largest wireless carrier in the US is turning its data rates around. One can only hope that something good will come out of it, but I'm not so sure after seeing some of the screenshots on the site.
Effective on January 20, 2008, their plans are being revised. The once unlimited on-device data and messaging is not going to be so unlimited anymore. They decided to be a "soft limit" of 5GB to those people who uses tethering function. If you constantly goes over 5GB, you might actually not be charged! But you'll be relieved from AT&T.
Throughout all of this, AT&T also mentioned that they will probably no longer sell any "Windows Media Devices" that probably means all Windows Mobile phones those without the QWERTY keyboard.
I guess we'll see how things will work out after the 20th.
I actually read this while on hold with AT&T and asked the service rep if this was true. He told me was they are usually made aware of these types of things told me that he had not heard anything about unlimited data plans getting axed.
i dont think they are ridding of unlimited plans for pdas. i think they are capping a limit on people who use their pda as a tether plan...i could be wrong but read this...
removal of unlimited use from....blackberry/pda tethering plans
i guess people were just using their phones for internet access and not as many were buying wireless cards for laptops.
also the change is that your text messaging is not including. like right now i have unlimited data plan with 1500 messages for 50 bucks. now it looks like itll be 30 bucks for 5gb pda plan and than get a separate text message plan....$5 for 200 and $15 for 1500, or $20 for unlimited.
so for my same $50 i spend now i could get unlimited pda and unlimited text messaging now. but i think ill just slim it down to the 200 plan and save myself $15 a month.
keeping in mind i could be wrong, but along with what the service rep said who knows. i guess we will soon find out.
I hope you guys are right. When I interviewed with AT&T, they asked me this question that sorts of shocked me, "we like to promise people better than what might actually happen or we can really do. Are you comfortable doing that?"
I straight up said no, but I got the offer anyway. I didn't take it, but that's something I always have in mind when I think about AT&T.
what position were you offered with them? if it was like a person that takes phone calls id understand not wanting to take it. but otherwise id take that job in a second.
every business does that though, but just especially wireless providers.
THis is the link to Engadget's post. It shows a document with the AT&T logo that explains the plan. It does say that the data plan change pertains to tethering Smartphones to a laptop or PDA. Has anyone received anything from AT&T officially? I thought they were required to disclose this type of info?
I hope they do it soon. I'm worried if it's going to be one of those "terms and conditions" are changed but in a very small print.
even though the amount of people effected by this decision from AT&T is not going to be that big (it's tethering, not overall data plan), it's still unfair to me.
