At Mobius Conference in Amsterdam, the next version of Windows Mobile will be "an update rather than an upgrade". Unfortunate if you want something completely new and away from WM5 and WM6, but hopefully it'll fix some bugs that either of those have.
The new update is expected in Q1 of 2008 and will be rolling out with new phones in Q2, Q3 and on. The good news is that we can update our own Windows Mobile. The bad news is that our fate of which version to use belongs to our providers. Whether they'll give us the upgrade or not
I don't know anything about it yet, but when I do I'll definitely tell you guys.
As far as when, probably sometimes in late January or early February? I don't know exactly, but it SHOULD be around then. They delay products all the time, so you never know
