On Tuesday, Microsoft it will not be participating in the upcoming FCC 700MHz auction taking place in January. Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO said they were not interested in it because it would not advance the company’s strategy in selling their mobile phone software to handset manufacturers.
"What would it buy us to buy a piece of spectrum, one piece of spectrum in one country," said Ballmer at the CTIA wireless conference in San Francisco seen over the Internet. "It would do a lot to alienate the telecom industry."
When the issue of Google’s possible participation into the auction rose, Ballmer replied saying Microsoft’s expertise are not in setting up wireless networks.
